The Manufacturing Academy is a no-cost, 17-week accelerated training program designed for individuals without prior experience to acquire the essential skills and knowledge needed to start a career in advanced manufacturing.
As a pre-employment program, it aims to give participants a solid foundation in technical skills and workplace competencies that meet industry standards.
Upon completion, graduates receive a Certificate of Achievement, as well as certifications like the Six Sigma Green Belt and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Educational Overview Certificate.
The program includes hands-on machine training, classroom instruction, and personal development services. The curriculum encompasses topics such as technical math, machine theory, blueprint reading, and coordinate measuring machines (CMMs).
Program staff provide comprehensive support, including career coaching, job placement assistance, and barrier mitigation to help participants overcome significant barriers and progress smoothly through the program and into their chosen careers. The program also includes dedicated modules on professional development, interpersonal skills, and resume optimization.
Throughout the program, participants are introduced to and connected with potential employers.
Since 2014, the Manufacturing Academy has served more than 16 cohorts, with over 200 participants, achieving an 90% job placement rate.

AMI-SD is a U.S. Department of Labor recognized Registered Apprenticeship Sponsor (Program #2025-CA-133259)
Launched in 2025, it is a competency-based program designed to move an apprentice from a low-skilled entry-level position to full advanced occupational proficiency in 1-2 years.
Designed for individuals seeking careers as professional CNC Machine Operators (O*Net Code: 51-4035) or Quality Control Inspectors (O*Net Code: 51-9061).
The apprentice is sponsored by an employer and is paid on a progressive wage schedule ranging from $20 to $25 per hour.
Once a position is offered, new hires will complete a background check and a drug screening.
Upon completion, the apprentice will receive a “Completion of Registered Apprenticeship” certificate —a nationally recognized industry credential.
Ideal candidates for Apprenticeship:
Total Hours of Related Training Instructions (RTI) - 340 hours
On-the-Job Training (OJT) - Competency-Based
Admission Process:
All prospective applicants must undergo a personal interview with a representative of AMI-SD, tour the training facility, receive an overview of the policies, and await enrollment confirmation afterward.
General Admissions Requirements:
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and must be a High School graduate or hold a GED. All instruction is provided in English. Applicants must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English at a level sufficient to participate and complete the program.
