MISSION STATEMENT:
AMI-SD is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to helping build a skilled and diverse talent pipeline that serves the region’s vital advanced manufacturing sector and strengthens the broader community.
ABOUT:
Founded in 2014, AMI-SD is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit committed to strengthening the region's advanced manufacturing workforce by helping to address the urgent demand for entry-level and middle-skilled precision machine workers - such as CNC Machine Operators and Quality Control Inspectors - by recruiting and developing a skilled local talent pipeline.
Our programs and services are tuition-free, designed to equip unemployed and underemployed individuals with technical and professional skills to secure stable, well-paid careers in the advanced manufacturing sector. Upon completion, graduates earn competitive wages, thereby contributing to economic mobility and reducing unemployment in East County and the greater San Diego area.
We collaborate with workforce agencies, educational institutions, community groups, and employers to leverage resources, enhance participant support, attract a diverse range of populations, and ensure that training aligns with industry needs, helping businesses fill critical skill gaps and remain competitive.
We serve the community by addressing two key issues:
Since our inception in 2014, we have served more than 250 individuals across 16 cohorts, achieving a 90% job placement rate for program graduates.

Established as the “Grande Foundation,” a 501(c)(3) nonprofit by Bob Grande, a Veteran and Small Business owner, as a forward-thinking effort to develop a diverse and skilled workforce for the region’s vital manufacturing sector.

Launched the first “Manufacturing Academy” cohort with 12 participants, and structured as a Customized Training program with support from the San Diego Workforce Partnership and the East County Economic Development Corporation.
