The AMI-SD Manufacturing Academy program is designed for job seekers to fill entry-level positions in advanced manufacturing via an accelerated 17-week training program at our facility. It is a pre-employment, pre-apprenticeship style program that recruits unemployed, underemployed, and low-income individuals; and provides academic knowledge and skills training tailored to fill entry-level and middle-skill jobs for participants who have barriers to employment, specifically individuals with no prior experience, who are unemployed, underemployed, or seeking to enter the workforce.
Curriculum is a combination of machining theory and extensive hands-on training, and also covers resume and interview prep, soft skills and workplace etiquette. College credit is not awarded for this program, rather it is designed as an accelerated program of study culminating in industry recognized advanced manufacturing credentials and applied skills needed for a career in advanced manufacturing.
Upon completion of the full program, graduates are connected and placed with local companies, with an option to transition into our Apprenticeship and obtain a Department of Labor certification
To date, the program has been administered 14 cohorts, totaling more than 150 enrollments, and maintains an 85% job placement rate.
The AMI-SD Apprenticeship Program is a two-year training program designed to transition participants from a low or no-skill entry-level position to full proficiency and Journeymen in one of the following advanced manufacturing roles:
The program is recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor, that combines classroom work, hands-on, and in-person training - a.k.a “learn while you earn” model - so that Apprentices gain their education and on the job training in parallel, increasing their value to the employer at completion.
Apprentice wages increase as the apprentice accumulates greater skills and experience on the job, with the knowledge and competencies to earn additional related technical skills and a nationally recognized journey worker credential.
Apprentices are accepted on a on-going basis, with priority given to Manufacturing Academy graduates.
